In this episode, the Liberty Hippie sits down with Mike Barnhouse of Broken Shovel Farms. Mike and his wife grew up around gardens and farms so when they found a place to settle down, of course they started their own garden. Over the years the garden has grown to include a market garden and some sheep. Recently, they were even able to add some adjoining acreage to grow their homestead even bigger with fruit trees and more gardens. We talked a bit about their decision to homeschool their children, and one of Mike’s hobbies that has turned into a side business: roasting coffee!

As this was a shorter episode, the Liberty Hippie would be remiss to not talk about some environmental issues, and he does so examining the International Joint Commission’s handling of flooding along the St. Lawrence river and Great Lakes area.

In this episode, the Liberty Hippie sits down with Brian Engelman of The New American Media. Brian has been curating content on YouTube that ranges from gardening, to sports, to politics for eight years. After moving to LA, Brian bought a condo in an HOA and eventually made the decision to start making his immediate environment healthier and friendlier; one of the main ways he did this was through container gardening. We talk about how Brian’s experiments in container gardening got started, and grew into a community wide project offering free vegetables and plants to other members, and how the improvements he made bettered everyone.
